What is Therapy?
When you are feeling confused or upset, perhaps you talk to a good friend or a family member. That person listens to you, and might offer advice or comfort. However, sometimes you might find that a friend or family member might not be able to offer the help you need. Maybe you feel nervous or afraid to talk to someone about how you are feeling.
That is when therapy is a good choice.
A therapist will listen to you, and will not judge you. A therapist will help you figure out why you are feeling the way you are feeling, and some ways to help yourself feel better. If you are in a difficult situation, a therapist can help you decide how to handle it. A therapist can also help you learn to talk about difficult issues and to resolve conflicts with the people you love.
In therapy, you may discover that you have more opportunities or more potential than you imagined you did. You may discover a way to handle a situation that will help it become better; you may discover a way to move out of fears or discomforts that are keeping you stuck.
Sometime people are ashamed or afraid to talk to a therapist. There is nothing wrong with talking to a therapist. It does not mean you are sick! It means that you are interested in having the best life you can have. It means that you are interested in helping yourself, and helping your loved ones.
